A beautiful night with the PPO, Barbieri, Fernandez sisters
By Leonor O Goguingco February 6, 2004, 8:00am
Manila Bulletin

A “beautiful night” PPO resident conductor Ruggero Barbieri called it – and that it was, indeed, featuring a concert organized by Mayor Jejomar Binay and Dra. Elenita Binay and the Makati City Government – one which was to display the musical genius of the Filipino – notably in compositions and in orchestral arrangements of Nicanor Abelardo’s “Bituing Marikit” and “Mutya ng Pasig” with arrangement by Angel Peña; Redentor Romero’s “Philippine Portraits” – and even in the nostalgic songs of our forbears portions of which bound end to end, made-up the G.B. Green’s “Overture of Filipino Folksong.”

Auspicious was the occasion, full the house, and wildly enthusiastic the audience. Because, perhaps, of the smallness of the Francisco Santiago Hall, never had the PPO sounded more solid or rotund.
